Bio

Jasper Wang is a maker and industrial designer working on the interactions between industrial design, electronics, interaction design, and new media technology. Jasper learned Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Ink Painting from his father as a kid. He also observed his father’s crafts in making life tools and gadgets throughout his childhood. Therefore, he chose to study industrial design when he first entered Huaqiao University. He also spent a semester in Taiwan learning digital media design as an exchange student. He worked as an industrial design engineer at BOHHOM after graduating. During this time, he engaged himself in 3 smart robot developments.

Jasper was admitted to the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at Tisch School of the Arts at NYU in 2018. He then discovered a new world filled with cutting-edge technologies. He started to learn programming, electronics, and large-scale fabrication tools. After a year, he found himself a new path, which is to develop tangible interactive objects by using the power of both design and technology. He interned at Glen Raven’s Concept Group in North Carolina as an industrial designer and electronic engineer in July 2019. There, he mainly worked with Smart Fabrics, and he ended up creating a Touch-sense & Color-change Fabric prototype with potential usages for future window blindings. Due to his love for fabrications, he worked as the shop staff at ITP to assist students and professors in achieving their works. His work - Smart Container is also included in Deqing Sun’s new book《电子设计与原型开发入门》(Prototyping Electronic Devices). His work - Discipline is featured on the cover of the famous electronic magazine - 《无线电》(Radio). In 2021, Jasper engaged himself in teaching at NYU Shanghai’s Interactive Media Art Program as the Adjunct Teaching Associate; he also worked as a Resident Artist at the Innovation Field at Tongji University.
